What is hemp and what is it used for?

Hemp is known to be one of the oldest crops cultivated by mankind. For thousands of years, its used to make paper, rope, and textiles. One of the oldest remains of people who are found and referred to human industry is a piece of fabric made of hemp. This piece of fabric, containing hemp, is from approximately 8000 BC.

What is hemp?

But what is hemp anyway? Is a hemp plant the same plant species as a cannabis plant? Let’s see what it is and what you can do with it. Then you understand how it differs from cannabis. The biggest difference between the two is that cannabis has psychoactive properties and hemp does not.

So what is it exactly, and how does it differ from the psychoactive form of cannabis that we consume medicinally and recreationally?

Body Care

Hemp has incredibly many uses, it can be processed in more than 1000 different products. Almost all parts of the plant can be used. The flowers and seeds of theĀ  plant are processed in healthy food or organic body care, and the oil is also used in bio-fuel, pet food, and textile.

Fastest Growing

Hemp is also called industrial hemp and comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant, and is nowadays specifically grown for industrial use.

Hemp is one of the fastest-growing plants that exist. Although both are Cannabis Sativa plants, hemp is not psychoactive, because there is almost no THC in hemp.

Hemp and cannabis are related to each other, but they have completely different chemical compositions. Hemp contains a lot of CBD and very little THC, so there are no psychoactive effects.

The legality of growing and processing hemp varies greatly from country to country. Some countries regulate hemp which contains a very low concentration of THC.
