Skunk vs Haze: What Is The Difference
Skunk and Haze are two of the oldest names in cannabis, and they could hardly be more different. Skunk is compact, quick and easy, with a strong, pungent smell. Haze is a tall sativa that takes its time, smells sweet and citrusy, and asks more of the grower. Which one suits you depends on your space, your patience and the kind of high you're after.
Where Skunk comes from
The Skunk most people mean is Skunk #1, bred in California in the late 1970s from Afghani, Acapulco Gold and Colombian Gold genetics. The aim was a plant that was shorter and finished faster than the tall Colombian sativas of the time. It became one of the most used parents in modern breeding (Verilife). You can still see the name all over seed catalogues, ours included: Super Skunk, California Skunk and Thai Skunk.
Where Haze comes from
Haze goes back to Santa Cruz, California, in the 1960s and 70s, where the long growing season suited its slow-flowering sativa genetics. Accounts of its exact parents differ, but they usually name landraces from places like Colombia, Mexico and Thailand (Leafly).

Which one should you grow?
If you're new to growing, have limited height or want a harvest sooner, Skunk is the easier choice. It flowers faster and is rated easy.
If you have the room and the patience, Haze rewards experience. It grows taller, flowers longer and needs more attention, which is why we rate it moderate to expert.
Smell matters too. Skunk is listed as pungent, so think about neighbours and ventilation. Haze is listed as citrus and sweet.
