The marijuana plant consists of many components: more than 60 cannabinoids! The two main components are THC and CBD. CBD stands for Cannabidiol and THC stands for Tetrahydrocannabidiol. Hemp plants normally contain a lot of THC, while the Cannabis species with a lot of CBD are rare.
THC
THC is the psychoactive ingredient of the marijuana plant. This creates the high feeling, where dopamine is released as a result of the interaction of THC on the brain.
CBD
Unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive at all. The use of products that contain CBD will therefore not give a high. This is also the reason why for example recreational users of hemp oil always prefer THC instead of CBD.
CBD or THC?
CBD has the ability to counter the psychoactive effects of THC. The difference between CBD and THC appears to be much greater than initially assumed. One of the primary reasons why many people use marijuana is for its effects that benefit and promote sleep. CBD, on the other hand, leads to wakefulness and is not ideal for promoting sleep. Marijuana strains with high THC often make the user feel sleepy and drowsy as compared to strains with low THC or high CBD.
So both CBD and THC each have their own benefits and weaknesses, so it’s up to you to choose the right marijuana for the right occassion, because you don’t want to fall asleep at the office and you also don’t want to stay up all night when you have to get up early in the morning!
