It’s happened to the best of us; you ate one too many space cakes or the bong hit was a bit too much and now you find yourself way too high to enjoy yourself. Another scenario that comes to mind is when you’ve been happily toking away at a joint and suddenly realize you agreed to cover your buddy’s shift at work. Now you’re too high to even get up let alone go to work. These thing happen so you should know a few tricks to help you get un-high or how to manage yourself when you are uncomfortably high.

An odd but effective method to sober up again is to chew on a couple black peppercorns. It sounds almost too simple but there is a science behind this method. A scientific review published in the British Journal of Pharmacology stated that cannabis and pepper have quite similar chemical traits. Pepper actually has phytocannabinoid-terpenoid effects that help to combat depression, anxiety, addiction, pain, and depression. The terpenoids in pepper mixed with THC has a synergistic chemical reaction on the cannabinoid receptors in the brain. Because they both bind to the same receptors in the brain you will get a calming effect.

CBD calmes the surplus of signaling and activity

Another way to diminish your high is to use cannabidiol, or CBD, oil. It’s said that if THC is the Ying, then CBD is the Yang. These two cannabinoids interact with each other in complex ways. CBD decreases specific effects like the high from THC along with the munchies and sleepiness. CBD calmes the surplus of signaling and activity that is going on in the brain’s endocannabinoid system which can cause anxiety. So when you’ve outdone yourself with that last bong hit then taking a CBD capsule or liquid will lessen the paranoid side effects.

Try taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen to ease your high. According to a study published in the Cell journal and performed at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center on mice, chemicals in nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs allow the plant’s therapeutic benefits to kick in without a buzz, loss of motivation, or memory loss. Scientists found that when they block a specific enzyme called COX-2, like ibuprofen does, the treatment benefits of THC continued even though the high and other neurological side effects decreased.

A 30 minute nap will help you

If you have neither of these things on hand then there are still other ways to get through your THC induced anxiety. You can simply go find a nice quiet place away from distractions and take a nap. Focus on deep breaths and keep in mind that whatever discomfort you feel from the marijuana will pass. No one has ever died from an overdose of marijuana so neither will you. A 30 minute nap will help you wake up feeling clearer, a longer nap might make you feel more groggy when waking up. Set an alarm if you need to, especially if you have somewhere to be later.

If laying down in a quiet place just isn’t doing it for you then all you may need is distraction. Try doing something you always enjoy like watching a funny comedy or playing a game with your friends. Friends can be very helpful in calming you down and keeping you mind from wandering too much into space.

Eating some food is not only is a distraction but may help you feel less high. People reported when they snack on high sugar foods or drink juice then they feel less high. Not to mention food tastes way better when you are high so why not give it a try. Drinking water is another way to help bring your high down because water is great for detoxifying your body.

Stop being preoccupied

Even though you may not feel like exercising when you have couch lock and you feel like panicking it may be a great solution to help you feel better. When you exercise endorphins get released in your brain. Endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain and they trigger a positive feeling in the body. When endorphins flow then the stress of your extreme high with decrease and your mind will stop being preoccupied with how high you feel.

There is no magic pill to stop your intense high right in its tracks, however, you can certainly dim it to a manageable high using one of these helpful tips.
