Getting super high can sometimes even make the most experienced of smokers go a little crazy and, of course, for new smokers an overwhelming high can be incredibly panic-inducing. However, a newly discovered all-natural substance called olivetol is reportedly incredibly effective at dampening the effect of too much THC.
For some people reading this, it may be difficult to imagine wanting to be less stoned. Although, too much weed has definitely demonstrated to induce paranoia and anxiety.in fact, the Colorado Public Health Department state that the amount of hospitalizations linked to consuming too much marijuana rose from 1,313 per 100,000 visits in 2011, to almost double that number in 2015. So, as you can see there are some extremely valid medical reasons for wanting to bring down a high, though your issue may be as simple as needing to get rid of your high fast for an event, like an unexpected family visit. Fortunately, olivetol may be able to save the day.
CB1 Receptors
Olivetol is typically found in lichen, a plant-like organism that is created from algae and fungus. It may surprise you to know that olivetol also exists briefly in marijuana and is believed to be a precursor to THC. It works in a very similar way to THC, in that it binds to CB1 receptors in the body. However, olivetol works to counteract THC as it actually reaches these receptors faster, and so is able to block THC from getting the user any higher. If your chosen cannabis consumption was smoking, you will begin to come down from your high about a half hour after you consume the olivetol. Though, if you've eaten edibles then this period of time is doubled.
Discovery and research
There aren't many places you can actually purchase olivetol though, seeing as it is still incredibly new. However, if you do manage to get your hands on it, make sure you get it from a reputable dispensary or online store and do not try to make it yourself unless you really know what you're doing, as some lichen is toxic.
Olivetol is a recent discovery and as such not much research has been done on it at all. It hasn't been proven safe to use, although nobody has reported any major negative side effects as of yet. It may be a matter of time before more tests are done on the substance and it becomes more accessible, so in the meantime try and keep an eye on your THC consumption rather than rely on something as under researched as olivetol.
