New terms are constantly being added to the wonderful world of cannabis. Only for weed, there are hundreds of nicknames and most of these names are very creative.

Marijuana terms explained

In addition to these synonyms and slang names for marijuana (like weed, Mary Jane, pot, grass, herb, marijuana, etcetera) there are also a lot of confusing terms that are somehow related to the herb, like names of strains, or consumption methods like dabbing and vaping.

Here is a list of terms you need to know and an explanation of what they mean


Blunt

A blunt is marijuana/cannabis/weed wrapped in a tobacco leaf and rolled into a cigar.

Hemp

Hemp comes from the male cannabis plant. Hemp is a fibrous product that can be used in the manufacturing of many products such as paper and beauty products. Hemp contains very little THC (less than 0.3%).

Budder

Budder is a concentrate made of cannabis that is creamy and butter-like in texture.

Cannabinoid

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that are produced by the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids interact with the human body's receptors and neurotransmitters in the brain and cause certain effects. There are over 80 different cannabinoids (and some say over 100). The most common and well-examined are THC (which is psychoactive) and CBD (which is non-psychoactive).

Capsules

Sunflower or coconut oil can be infused with cannabinoids and terpenes. These capsules are then consumed orally.

CBN1 / CBN2

CBN1 / CBN2 are cannabinoid receptors in the human body. The CB1 receptors are predominantly found in the brain and spinal cord. The CB2 receptors are located in the peripheral nervous system, there is a high concentration in immune cells.
