Growing marijuana comes with all sorts of tests and trials, from bug infestations to nasty weather, and sometimes it's really difficult to know what to do when certain situations, such as being overrun by ants, arise. Fear not, dear cannabis cultivator, for I am here to tell you everything you need to know about getting rid of the ants in your plants, and some of these tips may be useful for other types of infestation as well, so do read on:
Marijuana plants and ants definitely do not go together, in fact, ants have been known to severely damage the root system of cannabis plants, in turn stunting their growth and delaying bud production. If all of that isn't enough to get you freaked out, ant invasions typically come with aphid infestations as ants feed on them for the nutrients inside, which are a combination of sweet sugar they have created by consuming your lovely weed plants. You might think that the ants are doing you a favor by eating the aphids, but they actually multiply faster than they are consumed, birthing over twelve offspring a day. Yikes!
Getting rid of the ants
If you grow marijuana, then you should already be well aware that using pesticides and other nasty chemicals in your garden isn't going to get you anywhere and may in fact make your problem even worse. This is why using natural substances, such as cinnamon or neem oil, is the best way to solve an ant infestation problem.
Using cinnamon: this method is just as easy as it is effective. All you need to do is take one or two tablespoons of ground cinnamon and place it on top of where the ants are building. The intense aroma of the cinnamon should ward them all off!
Using neem oil: neem oil is a fantastic natural insecticide and can be sprayed directly onto your plants, working immediately. This essential oil doesn't just ward off ants, it also defends your precious plants from pretty much all kinds of critters, from gnats to spider mites.
Hopefully, these tips have helped you and your cannabis garden flourish!
